    The Center for Studies of Intellectual Property Rights of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (hereinafter called ¡°CSIPR¡±) is one of the earliest institutions engaging in teaching and research on Intellectual Property Rights. Its predecessor was the Intellectual Property Rights Teaching and Study Center which was set up in 1988 and renamed as CSIPR of Zhongnan University of Economics and Law in 2000.It was authorized as the Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities by the Ministry of Education of People¡¯s Republic of China on Nov.26, 2004.
 
    CSIPR is headed by Director. At present Professor Wu Handong is Director of CSIPR. CSIPR¡¯s research fellow are from Peking University, Renmin University of China, China University of Political science and Law, Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science & Technology, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, Hokkaido University (Japan), Michigan State University (U.S.A), L¡¯ Universite¡¯ Rene¡¯ Descartes-Paris 5 (France), Wolfenbuettel Industrial University (Niedersachsen, Germany).
CSIPR has set up four study groups as well as Information Room, China IPR Research Website. The four study groups are the Study Group on the Basic Theory of IPR, on China¡¯s Strategy for IPR, on WTO & International Protection of IPR, and on Trade and Administration of IPR.
 
    CSIPR has established Academic Committee as the guiding institute for academic research. The Academic Committee consists of 9 members. They are Professor Guo Shoukang, Professor Wu Handong, Professor Cao Xinming, Professor Li Mingde, Professor Zeng Lingliang, Professor Zhu Xuezhong, Professor Zhang Jin, Professor Zheng Youde and Professor Zhang Ping. The Director of this committee is Professor Guo Shoukang, who is a Well-known IPR scholar, and LL.D Supervisor of Renmin University of China.
After nearly 20 years of hard work, CSIPR has gained some achievements:
 
1) It has built an excellent research team. This modern research team is composed of the researchers with good educational background, high professional quality, reasonable knowledge structure, wide field of vision and good prospects, who come from inside and outside of our university, at home and abroad.
 
2) It has set a clear academic goal. Intellectual Property Rights is an interdisciplinary course which contains Jurisprudence, Economics, Management, Politics, Philosophy and Ethnics, etc. CSIPR has solid theory foundation and much practical experience in the field. It has set its academic goal with prominent characteristics and eminent advantages.
 
3) It has established an open academic platform. CSIPR has authorized as the Key Research Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences in Universities by Ministry of Education. The advanced infrastructure and material resources enable CSIPR to work out the IPR strategy, to complete the IPR system and to supply an open platform for IPR management, supervision and academic research.
 
4) It has constructed a rich database. There are a lot of professional books and periodicals in Chinese, English, and Japanese and the latest professional books and other materials will be purchased continuously. All of these resources can meet the needs of the researchers of CSIPR, the scholars inside and outside the university and the graduate students in our university.
